The 60-second scale check that prevents five-figure bid errors

Most blown bids don't come from bad pricing. They come from a takeoff that was off by 12% because nobody verified scale. Here's the 60-second routine that catches it.

Ask any estimator with ten years on them about the worst bid they ever submitted. About a third of the stories end the same way: "the scale was wrong."

Not the math. Not the productivity rates. The scale. Every linear foot, every square foot, every cubic yard, off by the same percentage — quietly — until the job was awarded and the field crew called to say nothing fit.

Modern plan sets come in mixed. The architect drew at 1/8" = 1'-0". The civil sheets are at 1" = 20'. The structural addendum was re-issued half-size. The PDF you actually downloaded was printed-to-PDF from a half-size set, then somebody "fit to page" it on the way into your viewer.

By the time it hits your screen, the scale bar on the title block and the actual ratio of pixels to feet on the sheet may not agree. If you trust the title block, you lose.
