Earthworks takeoff, inside the estimate.
On-screen earthworks takeoff that reads the contours and spot grades on your civil plans, builds the existing and proposed surfaces, and works out cut, fill and net import or export. Then it sends the yards to the job's estimate. No second program, no separate seat, no export.
It finds the contour lines on the grading sheet and reads their elevation labels, sorting dashed existing contours from solid proposed ones. You review what it found and add it to the drawing, set the scale and draw the boundaries. A boundary on the proposed surface is your limit of grading.
On test shapes whose exact volumes are known, the volume engine comes within 0.4% of the exact answer. Earthworks Pro is included in Premier and in the 14-day trial.
- Contour lines and elevation labels read from the civil PDF
- Spot grades such as FS, TW, TC and FF, even when the lettering is drawn as linework
- Dotted and broken contours joined; missing labels filled in from their neighbors and flagged for review
- Existing and proposed TIN surfaces
- Bank cubic yards of cut and fill, cut and fill areas, and net import or export
- Cut/fill map over the plan sheet and a 3D view
- Metric and imperial jobs
- Imports DXF, MicroStation V7 DGN and survey point files (CSV, TXT, XYZ); save a DWG as DXF
- Surfaces downloaded as LandXML or DXF for your surveyor
- Quantities sent to the job's estimate in one click
- Excavation takeoff around it: topsoil strip, cut and fill, footing and trench excavation, haul, grading and erosion control starter assemblies
Questions
Can Bedrock do earthwork takeoff from a PDF?
Yes. Earthwork Pro reads the contour lines and their elevation labels on a civil PDF, including labels drawn as CAD linework, plus spot grades such as FS, TW, TC and FF. You review what it found, add it to the drawing, draw the boundaries, and it builds the existing and proposed surfaces.
What files can Earthwork Pro import besides PDFs?
DXF (text or binary), MicroStation V7 DGN and survey point files (CSV, TXT or XYZ). DWG and LandXML import aren't switched on yet: save a DWG as DXF to bring it in.
What does the cut and fill give me?
Bank cubic yards of cut and fill, cut and fill areas and net import or export, shown as a cut/fill map over the plan sheet and in 3D. Metric jobs show cubic and square metres.
How do the yards get into my bid?
Pick the quantities and they land on the job's estimate as line items in an Earthwork bid item, ready to price. Sending again updates the quantities and keeps your prices, descriptions and notes.
Can I do excavation takeoff for footings and trenches too?
Yes, with the regular takeoff tools: the earthwork starter library includes footing, pad and basement excavation, utility trench excavation, backfill, haul off and import, topsoil strip and subgrade prep, priced as you trace.
Can I give the surfaces to my surveyor?
Yes. Download the built surfaces as LandXML or a DXF of 3D faces, in plan coordinates. Your surveyor puts them on site control before a machine uses them.
Who gets Earthwork Pro, and what does it cost?
It's included in Premier (US$249 a month or US$2,490 a year; local prices on the pricing page) and in the 14-day trial, for companies whose trades include earthwork, concrete & earthwork, or paving & sitework.
